Henry Schlegel

Henry J. Schlegel Jr. 86, of Goose Rocks Beach, Kennebunkport, formerly of Everett, Mass., passed away Dec. 1, 2012, after a brief illness, surrounded by family, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.

He was born in Everett, Mass., a graduate of Everett High School, and obtained a master’s degree from Boston College. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp in World War II. He was an educator and administrator in the Everett School system for more than 40 years. He was active in church, school and civic affairs. Henry loved hockey and was the first hockey coach at Everett High and was active in forming the Everett Pee Wee Hockey and farm teams.

He spent summers at Goose Rocks Beach with his family. Henry loved his time in Maine and after retirement, moved to Maine. He was a former president of the Goose Rocks Beach Association.

Survivors include Rita, his wife of 58 years, and their four daughters, Karen, Marian and her husband Christopher Reagan, Christine and her husband Richard Johnson, Rita and her husband Stacy Towne, and six grandchildren, TomHenry Reagan, Andrew and Christopher Johnson, Elijah Towne and Nicole and Valerie Schlegel, all of Kennebunkport.

Henry set a lasting example of love, commitment and integrity to all he touched.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation hours. Private services will be held.
