Don’t pay for more Lower Village parking

To the editor:

According to the town, there are 800 public and private parking spaces in Lower Village Kennebunk.

Yet, Question 2 is asking us, the taxpayers of Kennebunk, to spend $780,000 to pay for an additional 80 spaces.

If this is such a great idea, why don’t the businesses who will profit from this parking pay for it and charge for parking? That question was asked months ago and no one has stepped forward with a plan that would cost the taxpayer little or no money.

There are many of us who feel that we should not bear this burden of $780,000, especially in light of the school situation, the need to replace emergency equipment and $75 million of state bonds on this year’s ballot.

Please vote on Nov. 6 and please vote no on Kennebunk municipal Question 2.
